A co-housing prototype situated within the suburb of Sydenham in Sydney’s inner-west; this research project responds to the anticipated demand for affordable housing and employment opportunities along the Urban Renewal Corridor. Identifying the prevalence of underutilised double allotments within Sydenham’s revitalised industrial precinct, the housing complex is designed to occupy a single allotment width, allowing the remaining half to transform into pocket parks that provide increased thoroughfare and public amenity. Above these spaces sit the complex’s housing units, offering variations for both studio and two bedroom living intermixed with a series of communally shared spaces for cooking, washing, and living. Connecting each unit entrance is a common garden courtyard, operating as a shared space for social mediation between neighbouring occupants.
